When this becomes an emergency

What a pro does

Sewer line repair starts with a camera run down the line to find out exactly where the problem sits and what caused it, whether that's a low spot where the pipe has settled, a cracked joint, or old clay pipe that's simply reached the end of its life. In this area root intrusion is less common than in wetter climates, but ground movement and age still take a toll on older pipe. Depending on what the camera shows, the fix ranges from clearing and lining the existing pipe to digging up and replacing a section outright. The plumber won't recommend digging up a yard unless the camera actually shows damage that lining can't address.

Frequently asked questions

A flexible camera on a cable feeds video back to the plumber in real time while it moves through the line, showing cracks and blockages exactly where they sit instead of guessing from symptoms alone.
Not always. It depends on the pipe's condition and how much of it needs replacing, since a badly collapsed section usually still needs to be dug up and replaced directly.
Often, yes. Clay or older cast iron pipe common in older sections of the valley and the High Desert wasn't built for today's usage and tends to crack or settle with age.
It can, especially at the lowest drain in the house, which is usually the first place a backup shows up and the first place it does damage.
